A three weekend run of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum starts May 3rd thru 18th, featuring Charles Kennedy as the lovesick character, Hero.
It all takes place in ancient Rome when Hero falls in love with the girl-for-sale next door. His servant steps in to help him out, but this servant holds back nothing –whatever it takes, he will make his young master happy. Chaos ensues with hair-brained schemes, cases of mistaken identity, sight gags, impossible disguises and convoluted plot twists. One of the funniest musicals ever written, Forum promises: “Something for everyone: a comedy tonight!”
This is a return to musical theater after several years for Charles, who enjoyed revisiting the skills and practice necessary for singing solo and group numbers:
“Mixing acting and singing again was a bit of a challenge, but having an audience allows me to play with the timing and changes in tone that make slapstick musicals like this so fun!”
May 3-5, 10-12, 17&18, 2019
Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm.
Sunday 5/12 at 4:00pm.

Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus and Mostellaria), Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart created one of the most hilarious and rollicking musicals ever produced. They wove these ancient works into what some consider the best book associated with any Stephen Sondheim (Composer and Lyricist) collaboration. A Tony Award winning musical when it premiered on Broadway, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum continues to receive wide spread acclaim from critics and audiences throughout the world, more than two thousand years after Plautus.
